NC Students Against Destructive Decisions (NCSADD)
Beginnings
Students Against Driving Drunk had its beginning in Massachusetts where two high school hockey players were killed in separate accidents in the summer of 1981. Their coach, Robert Anastas, turned this local tragedy into a national crusade. The SADD program began in North Carolina in the fall of 1982. This program now serves students in middle schools, high schools, community colleges and universities. The need to establish more SADD chapters in our schools and local communities will continue as long as serious problems of drinking and driving, underage drinking and destructive decision-making result from alcohol and other drug use. The cornerstone of SADD's philosophy is student empowerment. Empowered students are confident, able to create change and control behavior in the effort to promote healthy and productive lifestyles. SADD empowers youth by giving them the resources and support to make healthy choices when confronted with challenges and difficult decisions. The 27th Annual NCSADD Leadership Conference was Friday-Saturday, November 20-22, 2009 at the Durham Marriott Convention Center, 201 Foster St., Durham, N.C. 2009 SADD Conference Presentation (Wrap-up) (pdf) 27th Annual NCSADD Leadership Conference Program (pdf) SADD NewsletterSADD Beginnings SADD Program Goals SADD Chapter Directory SADD Events Student Advisory Board / Student of the Year | |||||||||||||
